Zendesk Alternatives: Pricing and 8 Options Compared
Zendesk alternatives compared on real cost: Zendesk pricing, automated resolution fees and seats vs Freshdesk, Help Scout, Intercom and flat AI chat.

TL;DR. The best Zendesk alternative depends on which part of Zendesk you actually use. If you run a support team that lives in email, phone and chat tickets, look at Freshdesk, Help Scout, Zoho Desk or Front: they do the same job for less per agent. If you mainly bought Zendesk so an AI could answer website visitors, a full helpdesk is more than you need, and a flat-priced AI chat widget will cost a fraction. Below: Zendesk pricing as of October 2026, what a small team really pays, and eight alternatives with verified prices.
We make Feedbot, an AI chat widget with a light inbox, so weigh that accordingly. Feedbot is not a full helpdesk, and we say plainly below when one of the others is the better pick.
Zendesk pricing in 2026
Zendesk sells per-agent plans and charges separately for AI agent usage. Here are the plans on Zendesk’s pricing page, as of October 2026:
| Plan | Annual billing (per agent/month) | Monthly billing | Included AI resolutions | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19 | $25 | 5 per agent/month | Email ticketing, routing, pre-written responses, automations. Messaging and live chat come with Suite |
| Suite Team | $55 | $69 | 5 per agent/month | AI agents, knowledge base, messaging and live chat, telephony, omnichannel routing |
| Suite Professional | $115 | $149 | 10 per agent/month | Skills-based routing, IVR, app builder, quick reports |
| Suite Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | Custom | Copilot included, sandbox, approval workflows, custom roles |
How Zendesk AI agent pricing works
Zendesk bills its AI agents by automated resolution (AR): a customer request the AI resolves without escalating to a human. You don’t pay for conversations the AI hands over.
- Each plan includes a small allowance: 5 ARs per agent per month on Support Team and Suite Team, 10 on Suite Professional (capped at 10,000 a year).
- Extra resolutions cost $1.50 each if you commit to a volume, or $2.00 each pay-as-you-go.
- Copilot, the agent-assist add-on, is $50 per agent per month billed annually. It’s included on Suite Enterprise.
That allowance is small. A 3-agent team on Suite Team gets 15 included resolutions a month. If the AI resolves 500 chats, the other 485 cost $727.50 committed or $970 pay-as-you-go, on top of $165 in seats.
Why teams look for a Zendesk alternative
Four reasons come up again and again in reviews and forums:
- The AI bill grows with success. The better the AI agent gets, the more resolutions you pay for. At $1.50 to $2.00 each, AI often becomes the biggest line on the invoice.
- Per-agent pricing hurts small teams. Part-time helpers and founders who answer a few tickets a week still need a seat.
- Useful features sit in higher tiers. Skills-based routing, IVR and the advanced reports start at Suite Professional, $115 per agent.
- Setup takes real work. Triggers, views, macros, the help center and the messaging widget all need configuration. Small teams often use a fraction of it.
None of this means Zendesk is a bad product. It’s a strong choice for large, multi-channel support teams. It’s just priced and built for them.

What a small team pays: 3 agents, 500 AI-handled chats a month
Feature lists don’t decide budgets. This example does: a 3-person team, 500 website chats a month that the AI handles on its own, everything at list price.
| Tool | Seats / plan | AI usage | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zendesk Suite Team (annual) | 3 × $55 = $165 | 485 extra ARs × $1.50 committed | ~$893 ($1,135 pay-as-you-go) |
| Freshdesk Omni Growth (annual) | 3 × $29 = $87 | 5 packs × $49 after the 500 free sessions | ~$332 |
| Help Scout Standard (monthly) | 3 × $25 = $75 | 500 × $0.75 | ~$450 |
| Intercom Essential (annual) | 3 × $29 = $87 | 500 × $0.99 | ~$582 |
| Front Starter (annual) | 3 × $25 = $75 | from 500 × $0.05 | from ~$100 |
| Crisp | $95 Essentials or $295 Plus | Essentials includes around 450 automated conversations | $95 to $295 |
| Feedbot Pro | Flat, team members included | 1,000 conversations included | $19 |
Two caveats keep this fair. First, the helpdesks include a full ticketing system for email and other channels; Feedbot doesn’t. Second, AI units differ: Zendesk counts resolutions, Freshdesk counts sessions (a 24-hour window for chat), Intercom counts outcomes, and Feedbot counts every conversation where a visitor sends a message. Front’s Autopilot is listed as “starting at”, so heavier use will cost more.
The 8 best Zendesk alternatives
1. Feedbot (ours)
What it is. An AI chat widget for your website or app that answers from your site, docs and FAQ in the visitor’s language. When a person is needed, it flags the chat and notifies you in Telegram, Slack, Discord or email; your team can reply live from Telegram or the dashboard inbox, and replies continue by email if the visitor left. Requests like refunds become tickets with statuses, assignees and priorities, and contacts land in a Leads list.
Pricing. Free: 50 conversations a month. Starter $5: 100 conversations and website import. Pro $19: 1,000 conversations, no branding, team members, API, webhooks and Actions. Business $49: 5,000 conversations. Extra +500 conversations for $10. No seat or per-resolution fees. See pricing.
Choose it if most of your support volume is website chat with repeat questions, you’re a team of one to five, and you want a predictable bill. Install is one script tag (install guide).
Skip it if you need an email ticketing inbox, phone support, WhatsApp or Instagram channels, SLAs or native CRM sync. Feedbot doesn’t do those; a helpdesk below does.
2. Freshdesk
What it is. The closest like-for-like Zendesk replacement: ticketing, shared inbox, customer portal, knowledge base and automations. Chat, phone and WhatsApp sit in Freshdesk Omni.
Pricing. Freshdesk is $19, $55 or $89 per agent per month billed annually (Growth, Pro, Enterprise), or $23, $66 and $107 monthly. Freshdesk Omni is $29, $79 and $119 per agent billed annually. Freddy AI Agent comes with 500 free sessions, once per account; after that, sessions cost $49 per 100. Freddy AI Copilot is $29 per agent per month billed annually. Source: Freshdesk pricing and Freshdesk Omni pricing.
Choose it if you want a full helpdesk with a gentler price and learning curve. We cover it in depth in Freshdesk alternatives.
Drawbacks. The cheapest plan is email-focused, and the free AI sessions run out for good.
3. Help Scout
What it is. A shared inbox that feels like email, with a knowledge base, live chat and, on paid plans, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
Pricing. Free for up to 5 users and 100 contacts a month. Standard $25, Plus $45 and Pro $75 per user per month, with 16% off on annual billing. AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution, with a 3-month free trial. Source: Help Scout pricing.
Choose it if you want something your team learns in an afternoon. See our Help Scout alternatives post for the other side.
Drawbacks. Lighter reporting and routing than Zendesk; Pro requires a 10-user minimum.
4. Intercom
What it is. A full helpdesk built around chat, with Fin, one of the most capable AI agents on the market.
Pricing. Seats are $29, $85 and $132 a month billed annually (Essential, Advanced, Expert), or $39, $99 and $139 monthly. Fin is $0.99 per outcome. Source: Intercom pricing. Our Intercom pricing breakdown has worked examples.
Choose it if you’re a SaaS company with a real support team and want the strongest AI agent inside the helpdesk.
Drawbacks. Like Zendesk, the AI fee climbs with every resolution.
5. Zoho Desk
What it is. A full-featured, low-cost helpdesk that ties into the rest of Zoho.
Pricing. Free for 3 users (email ticketing). Express $7, Standard $14, Professional $23 and Enterprise $40 per user per month billed annually. AI agents are listed from Express with a free token allowance or your own model key; Zia AI starts at Professional. Website live chat (through Zoho SalesIQ) is listed on Enterprise. Source: Zoho Desk pricing.
Choose it if price per agent matters most or you already use Zoho CRM.
Drawbacks. Setup and admin take time, and the interface is busier than Help Scout’s.
6. Front
What it is. A shared inbox for teams that treat support like collaborative email, with ticketing, live chat and a knowledge base.
Pricing. Starter $25 per seat (up to 10 seats, one channel type), Professional $65 (omnichannel, up to 50 seats), Enterprise $105, all billed annually. Autopilot AI starts at $0.05 per conversation; Copilot is $20 per seat. Source: Front pricing.
Choose it if your support, sales and ops teams share inboxes and you want low AI usage costs.
Drawbacks. Starter is limited to one channel type, so most support teams end up on Professional.
7. Crisp
What it is. Live chat and a shared inbox with an AI agent, priced per workspace rather than per agent.
Pricing. Free with 2 seats and no AI. Mini $45 a month (4 seats, around 90 automated conversations), Essentials $95 (10 seats, around 450), Plus $295 (20+ seats, around 1,350). Extra seats are $10. Source: Crisp pricing.
Choose it if your team answers chats live and you want flat pricing with many seats.
Drawbacks. AI volume is tied to credits, so heavy AI use pushes you up a plan.
8. Gorgias
What it is. A helpdesk built for online stores, priced by tickets instead of agents, with deep Shopify integration.
Pricing. Starter $10 a month (50 tickets), Basic $60 (300), Pro $360 (2,000), Advanced $900 (5,000), billed monthly. AI Agent costs $0.85 to $1.00 per automated interaction depending on the plan. Source: Gorgias pricing. See Gorgias alternatives for the full picture.
Choose it if you run a Shopify store and want order data inside every ticket.
Drawbacks. Not a fit outside ecommerce; costs follow ticket volume during peaks.
When you should stay on Zendesk
Be honest with yourself before migrating. Stay if:
- You run omnichannel support at scale. Email, voice, messaging and social in one routed queue, with SLAs and workforce tools, is exactly what Zendesk is good at.
- You depend on the Marketplace. Hundreds of apps and integrations take time to rebuild elsewhere.
- You have admins who know it. A tuned Zendesk with years of triggers and macros is an asset.
In that case, the cheaper move may be to keep Zendesk for tickets and control the AI bill, for example by committing to a resolution volume ($1.50 instead of $2.00).
How to choose a Zendesk alternative
- List your channels. If email and phone matter, you need a helpdesk (Freshdesk, Help Scout, Zoho Desk, Front). If 80% of contacts are website chat, an AI chat tool may be enough. Our AI customer service agent page explains that setup.
- Count real agents. Include part-timers. Per-seat tools punish teams with many occasional users; Crisp, Gorgias and Feedbot don’t charge per seat.
- Estimate AI volume. Multiply expected AI-handled conversations by each tool’s unit price: $1.50 to $2.00 on Zendesk, $0.99 on Intercom, $0.75 on Help Scout, $0.49 per Freshdesk session. Compare with flat plans.
- Test with real questions. Every tool here has a free plan or trial. Paste your 20 most common questions and see who answers correctly.
Migrating off Zendesk
- Tickets and contacts. Freshdesk, Help Scout, Zoho Desk and others offer import tools or migration services for Zendesk data. Export from Zendesk first so you have a copy either way.
- Help center articles. Most helpdesks import them. For an AI chat tool like Feedbot, you don’t need to migrate at all: on paid plans it imports pages straight from your public help center URL (knowledge base docs).
- The chat widget. Remove the Zendesk Web Widget snippet and add the new one. Run both on a staging page first.
- Automations. Write down your triggers and macros before you cancel. They don’t transfer automatically between vendors.
