Intercom Pricing Explained: Seats, Fin and Real Costs
Intercom pricing for small teams: seat plans, Fin AI's $0.99 per outcome fee, add-ons, and worked monthly cost examples for a 3-seat SaaS in 2026.
TL;DR
- Intercom charges in two parts: a per-seat fee for the helpdesk and a usage fee for Fin, its AI agent. Fin costs $0.99 per outcome.
- Seat prices on Intercom’s pricing page: Essential $39, Advanced $99, Expert $139 per seat per month when billed monthly. Paying annually brings them down to $29, $85 and $132.
- A 3-seat SaaS on Essential with 500 Fin outcomes a month pays roughly $580–$610 a month. At 2,000 outcomes it’s roughly $2,070–$2,100.
- The Fin fee is usually the bigger number, and it grows as Fin gets better at its job.
- Intercom is worth it if you need a full helpdesk and have a support team. If you mainly need an AI chatbot on your site, flat-priced tools cost a fraction of that.
Prices below were checked on Intercom’s official pricing pages on September 28, 2026.
What is Intercom Fin?
Fin is Intercom’s AI agent. It reads your help center, docs and other support content, then answers customer questions in the Messenger, email and other channels. It can also run “Procedures”, which are multi-step workflows like checking an order or handing a customer to a human with context attached.
You can use Fin in two ways:
- Inside the Intercom helpdesk. Fin is included on every Intercom plan and you pay per outcome on top of your seats.
- On top of another helpdesk, such as Salesforce, HubSpot or Freshdesk. In that setup Intercom says there are no seat costs, but there’s a minimum commitment of 50 outcomes per month.
So when people search for “intercom fin pricing” or “fin ai pricing”, the answer is the same number in both cases: $0.99 per outcome. What changes is whether you also pay for Intercom seats.
Intercom pricing plans in 2026
Intercom sells three self-serve helpdesk plans. All of them include Fin. The main differences are automation, routing and security features.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Notable extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $39 / seat / mo | $29 / seat / mo | Messenger, shared inbox, ticketing, public help center, basic automation |
| Advanced | $99 / seat / mo | $85 / seat / mo | Workflow builder, multiple team inboxes, round robin, 20 free Lite seats |
| Expert | $139 / seat / mo | $132 / seat / mo | SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs, multibrand, 50 free Lite seats |
A few details that matter for small teams:
- You need at least one Full seat. Full seats are for anyone who replies to customers. Lite seats are free on Advanced and Expert, but they’re meant for internal collaborators and can’t send messages to customers.
- Annual billing saves “up to 35%”, according to the page. On Essential, some visitors currently see an annual price of $19 per seat instead of $29. It appears to be a price test, so budget with $29 unless you see the lower number at checkout.
- Startups can get a large discount. Intercom’s Early Stage program advertises up to 93% off plus a year of Fin for free, for companies with under $10M raised and 15 or fewer employees. If you qualify, apply before you do any other math.
- There’s a 14-day free trial with no credit card.
How Fin AI pricing works
Fin is billed per outcome, at $0.99 each. Intercom used to talk only about “resolutions”; the current pages group several results under the word outcome.
An outcome is counted when:
- the customer confirms the issue is resolved, or doesn’t ask for more help after Fin’s last answer;
- Fin completes a Procedure, including a handoff to your team;
- Fin disqualifies a lead or routes someone to self-serve (for example, to a trial signup).
On fin.ai, lead qualifications are listed at $9.99 each. If you plan to use Fin for sales conversations, that’s the number to watch.
There are also rules that work in your favor:
- You’re charged at most once per conversation, even if Fin answers several questions.
- If Fin can’t answer, fails an action, or the customer asks for a human, you don’t pay.
- If a conversation is reopened, the outcome is refunded.
- You can set spending limits and alerts, and Intercom offers a 90-day money-back guarantee on Fin.
Voice is priced separately: Fin Voice is listed at $1.99 per voice outcome, through sales.
Intercom add-ons
Three add-ons appear on the pricing page. None is required, but each targets a need a growing SaaS will run into.
| Add-on | Price | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Copilot | $35 / teammate / mo monthly, $29 annually | AI assistant for your human agents in the inbox. Every agent gets 10 Copilot conversations free per month. |
| Pro | From $99 / workspace / mo | Conversation analysis, quality monitoring and Operator. Includes analysis of 1,000 conversations and 2,000 credits per month; extra credits cost $0.01 each. |
| Proactive Support Plus | From $99 / workspace / mo | Product tours, surveys, in-app messages, checklists. Includes 500 messages; more are charged per unit. |
What Intercom costs: worked examples
Here’s a common small-team setup: a B2B SaaS with three people who answer customers, on the Essential plan. We’ll look at two volumes of Fin outcomes. We leave add-ons out at first, then show what they add.
3 seats, 500 Fin outcomes a month
| Line item | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Essential seats | 3 × $39 = $117 | 3 × $29 = $87 |
| 500 Fin outcomes | 500 × $0.99 = $495 | $495 |
| Total per month | $612 | $582 |
Over a year that’s about $7,000–$7,350. Notice that Fin is already more than 80% of the bill.
3 seats, 2,000 Fin outcomes a month
| Line item | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Essential seats | $117 | $87 |
| 2,000 Fin outcomes | 2,000 × $0.99 = $1,980 | $1,980 |
| Total per month | $2,097 | $2,067 |
That’s roughly $25,000 a year. At this volume the seat plan barely matters. Moving the same team to Advanced adds $180 a month on monthly billing ($297 instead of $117), which is less than 10% of the total.
Adding the common extras
If the same team at 2,000 outcomes also adds Copilot for all three agents ($105 monthly) and the Pro add-on (from $99), the bill becomes about $2,300 a month.
And remember that outcomes are not the same as conversations. If Fin handles 4,000 conversations but only 2,000 end in a billable outcome, you pay for 2,000. As Fin’s resolution rate improves, your bill rises with it. That’s the intended trade: you pay for work done. It also means the better your setup gets, the less predictable your costs are month to month.
Hidden costs to plan for
“Hidden” is a strong word; Intercom lists all of these. They’re just easy to miss when you look at the headline seat price.
- Handoffs can be billable. A handoff done through a Procedure counts as an outcome. A plain transfer without an outcome doesn’t.
- Sales qualifications cost $9.99 each. Fifty qualified leads a month is about $500.
- Channels are usage-based. WhatsApp is charged per conversation, SMS per message, email campaigns per bulk email, and phone by usage. Replying to inbound email is included.
- Seats grow with your team. Every new person who replies to customers needs a Full seat.
- Outbound features are a separate add-on. Product tours and in-app surveys sit in Proactive Support Plus, which has its own message allowance.
- Annual discounts lock you in. The cheaper seat price assumes a yearly commitment. Downgrades typically take effect at renewal.
When Intercom is worth it
Intercom makes sense when the helpdesk is the product you’re buying and Fin is a bonus on top. That usually looks like:
- a support team of several people who work in a shared inbox every day;
- a need for ticketing, SLAs, routing rules, multibrand or HIPAA;
- enough revenue per customer that $0.99 per resolved question is cheap compared with a human reply;
- an existing Intercom setup you’d rather not migrate away from.
It’s harder to justify when:
- you’re a solo founder or a team of two or three, and nobody’s full-time job is support;
- most of your chats are simple pre-sales or how-to questions;
- your volume swings a lot and you want a fixed monthly number;
- you only need an AI chatbot on your website, not a helpdesk.
If you’re in the second group, check the Early Stage program first. If you don’t qualify, look at tools priced by plan rather than by outcome.
Cheaper alternatives to Intercom Fin
There’s no single “cheaper Intercom”, because Intercom bundles a helpdesk and an AI agent. The alternatives differ in which half they replace. Each vendor’s current pricing is on its own site.
- Crisp sells a helpdesk priced per workspace rather than per seat. Paid plans include a monthly allowance of AI credits for its AI agent, and you can pay as you go beyond that.
- Tidio combines live chat with its Lyro AI agent. You buy Lyro conversations in monthly tiers on top of the helpdesk plan. It’s popular with online stores.
- Chatbase and SiteGPT are AI chatbot builders that price by message credits. They’re a good fit if you want a bot trained on your content and don’t need a full inbox.
- Feedbot, which is us. It’s an AI chatbot for small SaaS teams, priced flat by conversations: a free plan with 50 conversations a month, then $5 (300 conversations), $15 (2,000) and $39 (6,000). There are no seats and no per-resolution fees. Besides answering from your docs, the same bot qualifies leads and groups user feedback into issues your coding agent can pull through MCP or a CLI.
Feedbot is not a helpdesk. It has no ticketing, SLAs or shared inbox for a large team. When the bot can’t help, it flags the conversation and pings you in Telegram or your other channels. If you need a full support desk, Intercom or Crisp is the better fit. We cover the trade-offs in detail in Feedbot vs Intercom Fin, and our plans are on the pricing page.

FAQ
How much does Intercom cost per month for a small team?
For three agents on Essential, seats cost $117 a month billed monthly or $87 billed annually. Fin adds $0.99 per outcome. With 500 outcomes a month the total is about $582–$612. Most small teams end up paying more for Fin than for seats.
Is Fin included in Intercom plans?
Fin is available on every plan, but it isn’t free. Each plan lists Fin at $0.99 per outcome on top of the seat price. During the 14-day trial, Fin usage is unlimited.
Can I use Fin without paying for Intercom seats?
Yes. Fin works with other helpdesks such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Freshdesk. In that setup Intercom lists $0.99 per outcome, no seat costs and a minimum commitment of 50 outcomes a month. That puts the floor at about $50 a month.
Do I pay for Fin if it can’t answer?
No. According to Intercom, you aren’t charged if Fin can’t answer, fails an action, or the customer asks for a human. You’re charged at most once per conversation, and reopened conversations are refunded.
What’s the cheapest way to get an AI chatbot like Fin?
If you need a helpdesk too, compare Intercom’s Early Stage discount with per-workspace tools like Crisp. If you only need an AI agent on your site, a plan-based chatbot is usually far cheaper: Feedbot’s Pro plan is $15 a month for 2,000 conversations, with no per-resolution fee.
