How to add an AI chatbot and live chat to Squarespace

To add a chatbot or live chat to Squarespace, open Pages → Website Tools → Code Injection, paste one script tag into the Footer field and save. Code Injection is available on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans, not on Basic.

Why “Squarespace live chat” is two different things

Most searches for Squarespace live chat are site owners looking for Squarespace’s own support chat. That chat is for you, not for your visitors. If you want visitors to get answers on your site, you need a chat widget, and Squarespace doesn’t include one. This page covers the second case: adding an AI chatbot that answers on its own and hands off to you for live replies.

What you need

  • A Feedbot bot. Sign up free, create a bot from your Squarespace URL, and copy the bot id from Dashboard → Bot → Install.
  • A site on Core, Plus or Advanced. As of October 2026, Squarespace’s Code Injection guide says the feature is available on “Core, Plus, Advanced, and some legacy billing plans.”
  • Admin access to the site.

The snippet:

<script src="https://w.feedbotai.com/v1/feedbot.js" data-bot-id="YOUR_BOT_ID" async></script>

How to add a chatbot to Squarespace

  1. Open your site and go to the Pages panel.
  2. Scroll down to Website Tools and click Code Injection. You can also type “code injection” in the panel search.
  3. Paste the snippet into the Footer field. Footer code is placed before the closing </body> tag on every page.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Log out, or open the site in a private window, and send a test message. The conversation appears in your Feedbot inbox.

Use Footer, not Header. The script is asynchronous either way, but the footer keeps it out of the way of your page content.

Add it to specific pages only

Goal Where to paste
Every page Website Tools → Code Injection → Footer
One page (for example Contact or Pricing) Hover the page in Pages, click the gear icon, open Advanced, paste into Page Header Code Injection
Blog posts only The blog page’s settings, Advanced → Post Blog Item Code Injection
Everywhere except one page Not supported by Code Injection; add it per page instead

Don’t add the script in both the site-wide footer and a page. You’d load the loader twice on that page.

Embed the chat in a page

If you want the chat inside a section, for example on a support page, use inline mode. Add a Code block to the page with:

<div id="chat" style="height: 560px"></div>
<script src="https://w.feedbotai.com/v1/feedbot.js" data-bot-id="YOUR_BOT_ID" data-mode="inline" data-container="#chat" async></script>

Code blocks with scripts have the same plan requirement as Code Injection. More options in Install the widget.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Cause Fix
Code Injection is missing or locked Site is on Basic or a trial without a paid plan Upgrade to Core or higher
No chat while you’re logged in and editing Scripts don’t always run in the editor Check the live site in a private window
Chat appears on refresh but not after clicking links (7.0) Ajax page loading in some 7.0 templates Turn off Ajax loading in the template’s style settings, if your template has that option
Two chat buttons Script added site-wide and on a page Remove one copy
Works on *.squarespace.com, not on your domain Allowed domains lists only one Add both in Bot → Install → Allowed domains

Squarespace also notes that its support team can’t help troubleshoot custom code, so write to us if the widget misbehaves.

Train it on your site

Squarespace sites are often portfolios, service businesses and small shops. Visitors ask about prices, turnaround, availability and how to book. On the Free plan, add those answers as text and FAQ. From Starter, import the site by URL or sitemap.xml (Squarespace publishes one at /sitemap.xml). Click Refresh website after you update pages. See Knowledge base.

Live replies without watching a dashboard

Live chat tools assume someone sits at the inbox. Small Squarespace sites rarely have that person. With Feedbot the AI handles routine questions, and when a visitor wants a human, the conversation is flagged and you get a message in Telegram, Slack, Discord or email. Reply from Telegram and the visitor sees it in the chat; if they’ve left, they get it by email. Setup is in Human handoff.

Questions

Can't find an answer? Ask the bot in the corner, or write to us.

Does Squarespace have built-in live chat for my visitors?

Squarespace's own live chat is for site owners contacting Squarespace support. To chat with your visitors, you add a third-party widget through Code Injection.

Which Squarespace plan do I need to add a chatbot?

Core, Plus or Advanced. Squarespace says Code Injection is available on those plans and some legacy plans, so the Basic plan can't load a chat script.

Is it an AI chatbot or live chat?

Both. The AI answers from your site content first. When a visitor asks for a person, you get a notification in Telegram, Slack, Discord or email and can reply live; if they have left, the reply goes by email.

Can I add the chatbot to one page only?

Yes. Instead of the site-wide Code Injection panel, open that page's settings (gear icon), go to Advanced and paste the script into Page Header Code Injection.

Will it work on Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1?

Yes. The script loads from the footer on both versions. On 7.0 templates with Ajax loading, test page-to-page navigation after installing.
